Lighthouse History

Built: 1903

Type: Steel Skeleton Frame Tower

Height: 150 feet

Status: Demolished in 1958

Location: Bald Head Island

Lens: First Order Fresnel lens

Keepers: Capt. Charlie Swan assistant keeper Devaney F. Jennette

Notes: The lighthouse was a steel skeleton frame and was painted red and white horizontal stripes. Three white, two red. When the new Cape Fear Lighthouse was established, the old Cape Fear Station was changed from a fourth order flashing light, with intervals of thirty seconds, to a fixed, fourth order light, and its name was changed to Bald Head Light Station.
The lighthouse's remains are still there today.
